Trincadeira
It is particularly popular in the Alentejo and Douro regions, where it is known as Tinta Amarela. This is a challenging grape variety, very vigorous and requiring constant management and extreme care to control production.
Yields are generally high but tend to be irregular and unpredictable. The grape is characterized by medium-sized, very compact clusters and is extremely sensitive to diseases and rot. However, it adapts well to the dry climate of Alentejo and certain parts of Ribatejo, where it produces excellent results. Wines made from this variety are typically floral, becoming more herbaceous if the grapes are under-ripe. They are rich in color and acidity, moderately alcoholic, and have good aging potential. In Alentejo, it is often blended with Aragonez.
