Touriga Franca

Touriga Franca is currently the most widely planted grape variety in the Douro region, accounting for about one-fifth of the total vineyard area.

Its popularity stems from its extreme versatility, high productivity, balanced and consistent yields, and overall good health. It develops over a long growing cycle, producing wines with rich color. With medium to large clusters of medium-sized, round berries, Touriga Franca is one of the structural pillars of Douro blends, playing a key role in both Port wines and still wines. Thanks to its high tannin content, it contributes significantly to the aging potential of the blends it’s part of.

Touriga Franca offers abundant fruit, yielding wines with a deep color and firm structure, yet also showing elegance. Typically, the wines express floral notes of rose, wildflowers, blackberry, and rockrose (cistus). It is frequently blended with Tinta Roriz (Aragonês) and Touriga Nacional to produce balanced and age-worthy wines.
