Síria

The Síria grape has a particular geographic distribution, remaining within Portugal in a narrow strip running from north to south, always along the Spanish border.

It goes by many regional synonyms, but it is best known by its Alentejo regional name, Roupeiro, where it is the most widely planted white grape. It is a productive variety, producing small clusters and small berries, admired for its primary aromas, offering abundant notes of orange and lemon, with hints of peach, melon, laurel, and wildflowers. Unfortunately, it tends to oxidize quickly, losing much of its initial aromatic exuberance, which requires wines made from it to be consumed relatively young. The cooler, higher-altitude soils of the Beiras region suit it better than the warmer Ribatejo and Alentejo regions, where it reaches a special expression in the Pinhel area, an excellent terroir for this grape.
