Jaen
The Dão region is where this grape variety expresses itself best and is most widely planted.
It is a vigorous, early-ripening grape with naturally low acidity and difficulty in extracting color. Its exceptional productivity requires strict green harvesting to avoid producing diluted, acidic, and low-alcohol wines. The variety is particularly sensitive to downy mildew and rot.
It gives rise to fragrant wines marked by intense aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and cherry. Although it is a slightly rustic grape, it produces smooth and silky wines that round out quickly. Simple, yet charming wines.
