Fernão Pires
Fernão Pires is one of the most widely planted white grape varieties in Portugal, particularly prominent in the Tejo, Lisbon, and Bairrada regions. Its popularity is due to its high productivity, versatility, and rich aromatic profile. Used both as a single varietal and in blends, it is also well suited for the production of sparkling wines and sweet late-harvest wines.
Fernão Pires wines are best enjoyed young, offering aromas of lime, lemon, herbs, rose, mandarin, and orange blossom. It prefers fertile soils and temperate to warm climates but remains sensitive to frost. Beyond Portugal, it is also successfully cultivated in South Africa and Australia.
This grape stands out for its freshness, aromatic intensity, and great adaptability, making it a cornerstone of Portuguese white wines.
