Encruzado

The influence of this grape variety remains, for now, limited to the Dão region, where it establishes itself as one of the reliable pillars of Portuguese winemaking and one of the few white grape varieties of impeccable quality.

It is a productive variety, without major difficulties, perfect both for producing single-varietal wines and for enriching many blends in the Dão. When carefully managed in the vineyard and cellar, it offers delicate aromas of rose and violet, subtle citrus notes, a touch of resin, and, under certain conditions, intense mineral notes. One of its greatest virtues is its unique ability to maintain an almost perfect balance between sugar and acidity, enabling the production of serious, structured, smooth wines with extraordinary aging potential.

It should be noted that this grape, often identified as Encruzado, is considered the benchmark white grape of the Dão, renowned for its finesse, aromatic complexity, and longevity in the bottle. It is also appreciated for its versatility, expressing itself equally well in young, fresh, and floral wines as in barrel-aged wines that are richer and more elegant.
