Aragonês
Aragonês, or Aragonez, is the quintessential Iberian grape variety—one of the rare few valued on both sides of the border, known in Portugal under two names: Aragonês and Tinta Roriz (the latter used specifically in the Dão and Douro regions).
It is an early-ripening, very vigorous and productive grape, easily adaptable to different climates and soils, and has quickly spread to regions such as Dão, Tejo, and Lisbon. When its vigor is controlled, it yields wines that combine elegance and robustness, with an abundance of fruit and spice, delivering a deep and vibrant style. It prefers warm and dry climates, moderated by sandy or clay-limestone soils. Typically used in blends, Aragonês is often paired with Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca in the Douro, and with Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet in the Alentejo.
