Alvarinho
Alvarinho is one of the most admirable Portuguese grape varieties, originating from the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It produces unique, easily recognizable wines with a strong personality and distinctive character.
This is a vigorous grape that requires careful management of its vegetative growth, yet it remains low-yielding, with small clusters and a high proportion of seeds. Historically, it was among the first Portuguese grape varieties to be bottled as a single-varietal wine, playing a key role in the success of wines from the Monção and Melgaço subregion.
Alvarinho produces wines with high alcohol potential, that are fragrant and delicate, featuring a wide range of aromatic notes including peach, lemon, passion fruit, lychee, orange zest, jasmine, orange blossom, and lemon balm. It has tremendous aging potential, able to remain in excellent condition for at least ten years.
This variety is regarded as a true viticultural treasure of Portugal, renowned for the richness and complexity of its aromas, balance, structure, and its ability to create elegant, long-lasting wines.
