Alfrocheiro
The Alfrocheiro grape variety finds its natural home in the Dão region, although it has successfully expanded southward, reaching the regions of Alentejo, Tejo, and Palmela.
It is a vigorous grape, requiring particular attention to control its growth, and it has a natural tendency to suffer from powdery mildew and grey rot. It produces wines rich in color, with a remarkable balance between alcohol, tannins, and acidity. This outstanding ability to maintain high acidity, combined with a generous sugar content, makes it particularly well-suited to the southern regions. Aromatically, woodland fruit aromas dominate, with notable highlights of blackberry and ripe strawberry. Generally, it gives rise to wines with firm yet delicate and structuring tannins.
